ACC’S 10 Listening Tools

Stop. Drop. Goal.
Choose your environment.
Look at the speaker.
Turn off your thoughts and concentrate on the speaker.
Use open body language.
Restate words and messages when appropriate.
Ask open-ended questions.
Train your eyes to look for nonverbal signals.
Be patient. Let the other person finish their comment.
Remind yourself that time and attention to others is important.

ACC’S 10 Meeting Tools

Always have an agenda. State the purpose and the outcome. Send 24 hours before to receive feedback.
Start and end on time. Keep control. Begin at a unique time, like 9:03.
Start with a warm-up or icebreaker.
Encourage questions before and after the meeting.
Begin and close with good news to keep people positive.
Diversify presentation methods. Fewer power points, the better!
Encourage ALL to participate.
Evaluate content regularly to ensure it is relevant.
Determine the action required and by whom.
Recap the meeting with follow up.
